Weberwood Elementary School has been named both a National School of Excellence and a West Virginia Exemplary School. It has been the only school to receive the Exemplary Accreditation status for all 12 years since the award was started.
This school is located in the hills of Charleston, WV. We serve 250 students in grades PreK-5 who come from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our staff of 35 include a principal with 20 years of experience, 12 classroom teachers, interventionists, special education teachers, and a speech therapist to name a few.
Our teachers are all highly qualified, certified professionals who use a blended learning approach and a Daily Five literacy framework. Students have access to iPads (1:1 model) and multiple extra-curricular opportunities including VEX robotics, strings, and chess. Our positive behavior support plan is based on Pride+Attitude+Work=Success, or PAWS! We set high expectations for our students and reward them with club times once a month. Some of these clubs include: STEM challenges, robots, tie dye, lego building, cooking, games, and crafts.
Our PTA is an integral part of our community and their fundraising provides materials and experiences for our students. Our annual events include a Spaghetti Dinner, Fall Festival, Parents Night Out, Dance into Summer, and many more! They also host popcorn Fridays, staff lunches, a holiday store, and COSI on Wheels.
